AnIndigenous settlement is acensus subdivision outlined by theCanadian government Department ofAboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada forcensus purposes. These areas have at least 10status Indigenous ornon-status Indigenous people who live more or less permanently in the given area. They are usually located onCrown land owned by the federal or provincial government and have not been set apart for the use and the benefit of anIndigenous band, as is the case withIndigenous reserves.[1]
