The team played their first matches againstNew Zealand in late 2022, in preparation for the2023 World Cup, the first ever edition of the under-19 tournament.[1] India's squad for was announced in December 2022.[2] The team won both the inauguralWorld Cup andAsia Cup in2023 and2024 respectively.[3]
In November and December 2022, in preparation for the World Cup, India played a five-match T20I series againstNew Zealand, winning the series 5–0.[7] During the series, India announced their 15-player squad for the World Cup, on 5 December 2022.[2] They also played a six-match T20I series againstSouth Africa in the lead-up to the tournament.[8]
At the World Cup, the side topped both their group in the initial group stage and their Super Six group, qualifying for the semi-finals.[9] They beatNew Zealand in the semi-finals before beatingEngland in the final by 7 wickets to claim the inaugural Women's Under-19 T20 World Cup title.[10][11] India batterShweta Sehrawat was the tournament's leading run-scorer, with 297 runs.[12]
