Psychology (fromAncient Greek:ψυχή psykhē "breath, spirit, soul"; and-λογία,-logia "study of"[1]) is anacademic andapplied discipline involving thescientific study of humanmental functions andbehavior. Occasionally, in addition oropposition to employing thescientific method, it also relies onsymbolicinterpretation andcritical analysis, although these traditions have tended to be less pronounced than in othersocial sciences, such associology. Psychologists study phenomena such asperception,cognition,emotion,personality, behavior, andinterpersonal relationships. Some, especiallydepth psychologists, also study theunconscious mind.
