"Inalcanzable" is a song by Mexican pop groupRBD. Written by Carlos Lara and co-produced withPedro Damián, it was released as the lead single for the group's fourthSpanish-languagestudio album,Empezar Desde Cero (2007). The melancholicballad combinespiano withacoustic guitars and somewind instruments in its production.[1]

RBD confirmed the release of the single at the "Worldwide RBD Day"press conference held on October 4, 2007. The song was released to radio stations and made available as adigital download on October 8.[2] The song was well received by music critics and garnered award nominations onPremios Lo Nuestro,Premios Orgullosamente Latino andPremios Juventud.[3] The song's accompanyingmusic video went on to win an Orgullosamente Latino Award in 2008 in the category for 'Latin Music Video of the Year'. The song's officialremix, which featuresreggaeton duoJowell & Randy and reggaeton solo artistDe La Ghetto, also won an award, in the category 'The Perfect Combo' at the2008 Premios Juventud.[4]

The single peaked at #6 on the USBillboardHot Latin Songs chart, becoming the group's last top-ten hit on the ranking, but reached #2 on the USBillboard Latin Pop Songs subchart.[5][6][7]

Music video

Themusic video for "Inalcanzable" was directed by previous RBD collaborator Esteban Madrazo.[8] The video was filmed on November 7, 2007 over a course of 20 hours in an old house in theColonia San Rafael ofMexico City. The video premiered on December 5, 2007 on theRitmoson Latino TV channel,[9] but had leaked onto the Internet the day before. The video features multiple special effects and shows each of the members of RBD going through a tough time, when suddenly some of their fans come to give them courage and support. The music video won the award for 'Latin Music Video of the Year' at the 2008Orgullosamente Latino Awards.[10][11][12]

RBD performed "Inalcanzable" for the first time at the 'Evento 40' inMexico on November 1, 2007. Also in November 2007, the sextet presented the single on the Mexican TV showMojoe. On December 12, 2007, the group appeared without band memberAlfonso Herrera at theFOX Sports Awards, where they performed the single.[13] On December 15, the group appeared on the 1st AnnualMi TRL Awards byMTV Tr3s, and also performed "Inalcanzable".[14] Also in December 2007, the group appeared on the MexicanTeletón and performed the single.[15]

On January 26, 2008, RBD appeared at the 'Evento Oye' in Mexico City to again perform "Inalcanzable".[16] On February 1, 2008, RBD appeared on the festivities prior toSuper Bowl XLIII and performed the hit.[17] On February 10, the group appeared on the Mexican showEn Familia con Chabelo to again perform "Inalcanzable". On February 24, the group performed the song onLatin AmericanBoomerang'sBoom Box en Estudio. Also in 2008, the group performed "Inalcanzable" on the Latin American musical variety TV showNoche de Estrellas, hosted by Mexican singerYuri.[18] On March 4, 2008, the group performed the song on theAmerican morning show¡Despierta América!. That same day, the sextet appeared onEscándalo TV to again perform the single. On March 20, RBD performed "Inalcanzable" on the US TV specialFeliz 2008, hosted byDon Francisco.[19] On March 25, the group appeared inSpain'sTVE gala, where they again performed the successful single. In April 2008, RBD appeared again on the 'Evento 40' in Mexico, organized byLos 40 Principales, to again perform "Inalcanzable". On June 19, 2008, the band performed the song again at theExa TV concert in Mexico, but with the absences ofAnahí, due to sickness, andMaite Perroni, due to filmingCuidado con el Ángel.[20]

Critical reception

"Inalcanzable" was generally well received by music critics. Judy-Cantor Navas, director ofonline music serviceRhapsody, complimented the song for being a "beautiful and sweet collectiveballad."[21] Cantor-Navas also commented that the new music "could signal the start of a more mature phase for RBD".[22]

Chart performance

In theUnited States, "Inalcanzable" debuted at number thirty-six on theBillboardLatin Pop Songs airplay chart on November 4, 2007. The song made a big impact on the same chart the next issue by moving from #36 to #9, being bulleted as the song that increased the most in plays that week, and eventually peaked at #2.[7] "Inalcanzable" became RBD's fifth top 10 hit on the USBillboard Hot Latin Songs chart, peaking at number 6 in its sixth week charting.[23][5][6]
