"In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening" is apopular song with music byHoagy Carmichael, and lyrics byJohnny Mercer.[1] It was originally planned to feature it in aParamount Pictures film written forBetty Hutton, that never took off, which was to be calledTheMack Sennett Girl, orKeystone Girl. The song was buried in Paramount's files until it was rediscovered[2] and then used in the 1951 filmHere Comes the Groom and won theAcademy Award for Best Original Song.[1]

The recording byBing Crosby, andJane Wyman, withMatty Matlock's All Stars, and theFour Hits and a Miss was recorded on June 20, 1951,[3] and released byDecca Records as catalog number 27678.[4] It first reached theBillboard entertainment trade magazine's "Best Seller" chart on September 21, 1951, and lasted six weeks on the chart, peaking at number 11.[5]
