Imran Maharoof (Tamil:இம்ரான் மகரூப்,romanized: Imrāṉ Makarūp; born 1 September 1983) is aSri Lankan politician, former provincial councillor andMember of Parliament.[1]

Early life

Maharoof was born on 1 September 1983.[1] He is the son ofM. E. H. Maharoof and cousin ofM. A. M. Maharoof (Sinna Maharoof), both of whom were former members of parliament.[2][3][4] He was educated atRoyal College, Colombo and holds a diploma in management and banking.[5]

Career

Maharoof contested the2010 parliamentary election as one of theUnited National Front (UNF)electoral alliance's candidates inTrincomalee District but failed to get elected, coming 2nd amongst the UNF candidates.[6] He contested the2012 provincial council election as one of theUnited National Party's candidates in Trincomalee District and was elected to theEastern Provincial Council.[7][8]

Maharoof the2015 parliamentary election as one of theUnited National Front for Good Governance electoral alliance's candidates in Trincomalee District and was elected to theParliament of Sri Lanka.[9][10] He was re-elected at the2020 parliamentary election.[11][12]
