TheImages Festival is a yearly event devoted toindependent andexperimental film,video art,new media andmedia installation that takes place each spring inToronto.
The Images festival was founded in 1987,[1] originally conceived as an alternative to theToronto Festival of Festivals (now known as Toronto International Film Festival).[2] Originally titled Northern Visions, the inaugural board includedKim Tomczak,Paulette Phillips, Ross Turnbull, Marc Glassman,Annette Mangaard,Richard Fung, andJanine Marchessault.[3] Since 2005, Images has also presented international tours of Canadian media artists.[2]
Images is the largest festival of experimental film and video in North America.[4]

Retrospectives of filmmakers such asHarun Farocki,Richard Fung,Nelson Henricks andLouise Bourque have also been featured.
In 2011, the festival partnered with theArt Gallery of Ontario to presentJohn Sasaki'sPine series.[5]
