Iddo Goldberg (Hebrew:עדו גולדברג; born 5 August 1975) is an Israeli actor, known for his roles as Ben inSecret Diary of a Call Girl (2007–2011), Freddie Thorne inPeaky Blinders (2013), Isaac Walton inSalem (2014–2017), and Bennett Knox inSnowpiercer (2020–2024).
Goldberg was born inHaifa, Israel, to aJewish mother and Latvian father. He moved to London with his family at the age of 10.[1] His father hails fromRiga, Latvia, and emigrated toNorthern Rhodesia (present-dayZambia) during the 1930s, obtaining a degree in architecture from a British university. Goldberg's mother's family is based inJerusalem.[2] His parents first met when his father arrived in Israel for a vacation. They raised Iddo in Israel and later he went to secondary school atJFS in North London[3] along with his siblings. He also has relatives inHaifa, Israel.[1]
Goldberg has had several notable roles, including Brandon in the two series ofAttachments and Ben onSecret Diary of a Call Girl; where his then girlfriend, and later wife,Ashley Madekwe also had a regular role. He appeared as semi-regular 15Peter20 inChris Morris andCharlie Brooker's comedyNathan Barley. He also appeared in the 2008 war filmDefiance.[4]
In 2013 Goldberg starred as Freddie Thorne in the first series of theBBC Two crime dramaPeaky Blinders. He co-starred in the 2012 filmAnd While We Were Here.[2][5]
In addition to aTumblr account that features his photographs, Goldberg makes short films that are posted there.[6] He directed the shortSupper (2012) withJoey Slotnick and Lauren Katz and music videos by James Rousseau,Anyone (Acoustic/Live) (2012) andHair of the Dog (2012). Goldberg made a film, about his maternal grandmother, calledLuba (2010).
In 2015 he appeared in the music video for theDisclosure song "Magnets" alongsideLorde.
Goldberg played villainT. O. Morrow and his androidRed Tornado in theCBS seriesSupergirl in 2015.[7] Between 2014 and 2017 he starred inSalem, alongside his wife,Ashley Madekwe.
He married English actressAshley Madekwe in June 2012.[8] They have worked together onSecret Diary of a Call Girl, and he also had a role alongside her on the TV seriesSalem. In April 2023, Madekwe announced that they were expecting their first child.[9]
Goldberg stated his support for Israel following theOctober 7 attacks.[10] He is one of the signatories of an open letter by theCreative Community For Peace criticising reports onPalestinian genocide as causing acts of alleged antisemitism.[11]
