Ichthyaetus is agenus ofgulls in the orderCharadriiformes. Thegenus name comes fromAncient Greekἰχθύς (ikhthús), meaning "fish", andἀετός (aetós), meaning "eagle", and thus, "fish eagle".[1] They were previously included in the genusLarus.[2]
