Ib is arailway station in the Indian state ofOdisha. It has the distinction of having the shortest name of all stations on theIndian Railways system.[1][2]
The station derives its name from the nearbyIb River.
Ib railway station started with the opening of the Nagpur–Asansol main line ofBengal Nagpur Railway in 1891. It became a station on theHowrah–Nagpur–Mumbai line in 1900.[3]
In 1900, whenBengal Nagpur Railway was building a bridge across the Ib River, coal was accidentally discovered in what later becameIb Valley Coalfield.[4]
