TheIalomița (Romanian:râul Ialomița[ˈjalomitsa]) is a river of SouthernRomania.[1][2] It rises from theBucegi Mountains in theCarpathians. It discharges into the Borcea branch of theDanube inGiurgeni.[3] It is 417 km (259 mi) long, and itsbasin area is 10,350 km2 (4,000 sq mi).[2][4] Its averagedischarge at themouth is 45 m3/s (1,600 cu ft/s).[4]Ialomița County takes its name from this river.

The upper reach of the river is sometimes known asValea Obârșiei orObârșia Ialomiței.

TheNaparis River, mentioned inHistories Book 4Archived 2018-11-21 at theWayback Machine, is likely the modern Ialomița. The Naparis was one of five Scythian Rivers listed by Herodotus which began in Scythia and fed into the Danube.
