ISO 3166-2:MY is the entry forMalaysia inISO 3166-2, part of theISO 3166standard published by theInternational Organization for Standardization (ISO), which definescodes for the names of the principalsubdivisions (e.g.,provinces orstates) of allcountries coded inISO 3166-1.
Currently for Malaysia, ISO 3166-2 codes are defined forthree federal territories and 13 states.
Each code consists of two parts, separated by a hyphen. The first part isMY, theISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code of Malaysia. The second part is two digits:
Subdivision names are listed as in the ISO 3166-2 standard published by the ISO 3166 Maintenance Agency (ISO 3166/MA).

The letters in the former codes are currently used invehicle registration plates, except Sabah and Sarawak which use S and Q respectively.
