Entry for Latvia in ISO 3166-2

ISO 3166-2:LV is the entry forLatvia inISO 3166-2, part of theISO 3166standard published by theInternational Organization for Standardization (ISO), which definescodes for the names of the principalsubdivisions (e.g.,provinces orstates) of allcountries coded inISO 3166-1.

Currently for Latvia, ISO 3166-2 codes are defined for36 municipalities and seven state cities. The seven state cities have special status equal to the municipalities.

Each code consists of two parts separated by a hyphen. The first part isLV, theISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code of Latvia. The second part is either of the following:

  • three digits: municipalities
  • three letters: state cities

Subdivision names are sorted inLatvian alphabetical order: a, ā, b-c, č, d-e, ē, f-g, ģ, h-i, ī, j-k, ķ, l, ļ, m-n, ņ, o-s, š, t-u, ū, v-z, ž.
