It is part of theISO 3166-2, which defines codes for the names of the principalsubdivisions (provinces orstates) of all countries coded inISO 3166-1. ISO 3166-2 codes are defined for28 states and eight union territories of India.

ISO 3166-2 codes is part of theISO 3166 standardization codes published by theInternational Organization for Standardization (ISO). It is part of theISO 3166-2, which defines codes for the names of the principalsubdivisions (provinces orstates) of all countries coded inISO 3166-1.^[1]
