TheIEEE Richard W. Hamming Medal is presented annually to up to three persons, for outstanding achievements ininformation sciences,information systems andinformation technology. The recipients receive agold medal, together with areplica inbronze, a certificate and anhonorarium.[1]
The award was established in 1986 by theInstitute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and is sponsored byQualcomm, Inc. It is named afterRichard W. Hamming, whose work has had many implications forcomputer science andtelecommunications. His contributions include the invention of theHamming code, anderror-correcting code.[1][2]
