Hypochaeris is agenus of plants in the familyAsteraceae. Many species are known ascat's ear. These are annual and perennial herbs generally bearingflower heads with yellow ray florets. These plants may resemble or be confused withdandelions and so some are calledfalse dandelions.
Estimates of the number of species range from about 50[2] up to about 100.[3] Most species are native toSouth America, but some are found inEurasia andNorth Africa.
Its name is derived fromGreekὑπό (under) andχοῖρος (young pig).
