Inenzymology,hydroxyacid-oxoacid transhydrogenase (EC1.1.99.24) is anenzyme thatcatalyzes thechemical reaction
The twosubstrates of this enzyme are (S)-3-hydroxybutyric acid and α-ketoglutaric acid. Itsproducts are acetoacetic acid and (R)-2-hydroxyglutaric acid.[1]
This enzyme belongs to the family ofoxidoreductases, specifically those acting on the CH-OH group of donor with other acceptors. Thesystematic name of this enzyme class is(S)-3-hydroxybutanoate:2-oxoglutarate oxidoreductase. This enzyme is also calledtranshydrogenase, hydroxy acid-oxo acid.[2]
