Velud was shot in the arm in a January 2010attack by Angolan rebels on the team bus while traveling with Togo's national football team to the2010 African Cup of Nations.[4]

He later returned to Créteil, then ventured to Morocco withHassania Agadir, Tunisia withStade Tunisien, and Algeria withES Sétif,USM Alger, in which he won two consecutiveLigue 1 titles, andCS Constantine.

In 2016, he took charge ofTP Mazembe,[5] securing four titles, includingLinafoot,DR Congo Super Cup,Confederation Cup andCAF Super Cup.

His next stop was Tunisian clubÉtoile du Sahel, guiding them to the semi-finals of the2017 CAF Champions League, followed by a stint withKuwait SC starting from May 2018.[6] However,FIFA's suspension of their respective football association prevented them from participating in bothAFC Champions League andArab Club Championship. In January 2020, he assumed the role of manager forSudan,[8] leading them to a second-place finish in their group during the2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualification, and securing participation in the final tournament in Cameroon. However, disappointing performances in the2021 FIFA Arab Cup and2022 FIFA World Cup qualification, led to his dismissal in December 2021, despite the opportunity to lead Sudan during the2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
