Hrimhari is a fictional character appearing inAmerican comic books published byMarvel Comics. He was first introduced inThe New Mutants Special Edition #1 (December 1985), and was created byChris Claremont andArt Adams.
A descendant ofFenris Wolf, Hrimhari is the prince of the wolves ofAsgard.[1][2] He presides over all wolves in Asgard, but retains a humble and gentle demeanor not normally associated with royalty. He originally had the ability to change his form from that of agray wolf to a shape resembling a wolf-human hybrid. He is highly respected by the people of Asgard, and is said to be a true friend ofHogun. However, the giants of Asgard are mortal enemies of the wolf people and hunt them down at every opportunity.
When theNew Mutants are magically taken to Asgard,Wolfsbane (Rahne Sinclair) meets Hrimhari in the woods while being chased by giants. Immediately enchanted by her, Hrimhari saves Rahne and the two become almost inseparable. Rahne has similar feelings, but does not know how to deal with them due to her strict upbringing.[3][4] The godLoki manages to capture the two lovers and transformed them into more sinister versions of their wolf forms under his servitude. The two are eventually returned to normal, but are separated when Rahne returns to Earth.[5]
Years later, the death goddessHela attempts to take over Asgard. Part of her plan to conquer Asgard and kill a then-helplessOdin, using wolves as her scouts and spies. Hrimhari battles Hela's armies for his people's freedom, but he is eventually captured. The New Mutants discover Hela's plan through the linkDanielle Moonstar has with theValkyrior and rescue Hrimhari. Hrimhari travels to get help fromTiwaz, who in turn sends him to free theWarriors Three from the Hive Trolls. Hrimhari recruits the troll queen Ula, who is initially reluctant but agrees to work with him after being convinced that Hela is the true enemy.[6][7]
Hrimhari is killed during the events ofRagnarök, but is later resurrected and gains the ability to assume a human form.[8][9] Hrimhari informs Wolfsbane that the Frost Giants had recently slain his pack to wear their skins.[10] Hrimhari resumes his relationship with Rahne, with the two battling and killing Frost Giants together. Wolfsbane becomes pregnant with a son, Tier, but is told that she will not survive childbirth due to Tier's immense power. Hrimhari sacrifices his soul to resurrectElixir, who augments Wolfsbane's body so she can survive childbirth.[11][12] As he grows up, Tier is adopted byWerewolf by Night and later killed byStrong Guy during a battle with the Lords of Hell, who seek to harness his magic. Due to dying without leaving a body behind, Tier is unable to be resurrected bythe Five, who believe that he may still be alive.[13][14][15][16][17][18]
Hrimhari returns inThe War of the Realms event, where he and Tier make a deal with theEnchantress that allows them to leave the underworld, but prevents them from interfering in the Dark Council's schemes. The deal is broken when Wolfsbane attacksSabretooth, forcing Hrimhari and Tier to return toHel.[19][20]
Hrimhari appears in theWhat If issue "What If the X-Men Stayed in Asgard?". He and Wolfsbane have three children, who are respectively a full human, full wolf, and hybrid.[4][21]
Throughout Thor: Love and Thunder there were several different wolf-related characters – including the wolf-lady played by Chris Hemsworth's wife Elsa Pataky. These inclusions could be a reference to characters like Werewolf by Night or even Hrimhari, a relatively unknown Asgardian werewolf. He is descended from Fenris, the giant monstrous wolf seen fighting Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok.
Wolfsbane forms a romance with Hrimhari, a wolf prince...Eitri and Hrimhari are killed in the battle, making Cannonball the new king of the dwarfs and Wolfsbane the new Wolf Queen.
They disguise themselves and discover that Hrimhari, Rahne's wolf-prince friend, is also a captive. They rescue him too.
Wolfsbane's most prominent lover, however, is not human at all. Rather, he is the Asgardian wolf-prince Hrimhari. The two first encountered one another while Rahne was just a teenager, and she was troubled by the fact she was drawn to him. Decades later, when Rahne's animal self was rising to the fore, they met once again and became lovers. Rahne was left pregnant with Hrimhari's child, but the hybrid fetus threatened her life, and Hrimhari had to make a deal with Hela - the Asgardian Goddess of Death - to save both his lover and his child.
The former New Mutant lycanthrope was involved in a complicated love triangle between teammates Rictor and Shatterstar when her pregnancy was first revealed, though the father was actually Asgardian wolf prince Hrimhari...Unfortunately, Rahne lost Tier during a war between Hell Lords over her powerful child.
Tier is the son of Wolfsbane and the Asgardian Wolf Prince, Hrimhari, and was born during Peter David and Emanuela Lupacchino's run on X-Factor...However, the mystical properties of the pregnancy threatened Wolfsbane's life -- resulting in Hrimhari sacrificing himself to Hela in exchange for Elixir being revived from the land of the dead... [Tier] almost claimed the throne of hell for himself, only for his mother's X-Factor teammate Strong Guy to strike from behind and stab him with a trident...Since Tier died without leaving a body to identify, the Five in good conscience can't restore him out of fear that he could still exist elsewhere.
Although many mutants have been reborn on Krakoa thanks to the actions of the Five, there are still some notable figures who haven't been reborn, including Tier, the son of Wolfsbane and the Asgardian Wolf Prince Hrimhari. Killed shortly after his birth by Strong Guy to briefly cement his control of Hell, Tier disappeared in a flash of light in 2013's X-Factor #256, by Peter David and Emanuela Lupacchino.
After falling in love with the Asgardian wolf god Hrimhari, Wolfsbane gave birth to his son, a demigod named Tier. After Tier was killed by Wolfsbane's own teammate, she has been desperately working to reunite with her son. With Krakoan resurrection available, Wolfsbane has petitioned the Council numerous times to restore Tier's life. Yet each time, Wolfsbane has been refused, as Cerebro seems to indicate that Tier is still alive.
During the events of Necrosha the wolf-prince Hrimhari, who she was betrothed to at the time, sacrificed himself for Elixir, so the healing mutant could heal a fading Rahne and their child. Her child was later born violent and lethal, and escaped for a time. Though Wolfsbane tracked down her wayward son, not too long afterwards he was seemingly destroyed by her current New Mutants teammate, Strong Guy.
Sabretooth has brokered a deal with Hrimhari and the Enchantress to get Magik as his prisoner and hopefully gain favor with Malekith in the process.
Magik is held captive by Sabretooth, who made a deal with formerly deceased Asgardian wolf god Hrimhari so that Hrimhari could be reunited with his baby mama, Wolfsbane. But Wolfsbane wants Hrimhari to renege on that deal...
