Hookers on Davie is a Canadian documentary film, directed byJanis Cole andHolly Dale and released in 1984.[1] A portrait of a number of women, both cisgender and transgender, who work asprostitutes onDavie Street inVancouver,British Columbia,[2] the film profiles them in the context of the early campaign to "clean up" the street during the mayoralty ofMike Harcourt.[3]
The film premiered at theBloor Cinema inToronto,Ontario on April 5, 1984.[1]
The film received aGenie Award nomination forBest Feature Length Documentary at the6th Genie Awards in 1985.[4] It also won the award for Best Documentary at the 1984Chicago International Film Festival.[3]
