TheHonda Quint is asubcompactcar manufactured byHonda in Japan from 1980 until 1985. It was introduced in February 1980 in Japan as a five-door liftback version of theHonda Civic, being more upscale than the Civic,[1] and was sold at theHonda Verno sales channel in Japan. The Quint was made available to export markets includingEurope andSoutheast Asia in 1981, with the export name beingHonda Quintet. Beginning in 1983, this model was also sold inAustralia as theRover Quintet.[2] The Quint was succeeded by theHonda Quint Integra in 1985.
The car came with a 1,602 cc four-cylinder engine which develops 80 PS (79 bhp; 59 kW) and 126.5 N⋅m (93.3 lb⋅ft) of torque. This engine was coupled with a five-speedmanual transmission or an optional two-speed semi-automatic with overdrive. A three-speed version of the semi-auto Hondamatic replaced this during 1982.[3] Speed sensitivepower steering (not on the base model) and fullyindependent suspension withMacPherson struts and front and rearanti-roll bars were also featured. The top models had air conditioning, central locking, electric windows, and electric sunroof. Japanese specified versions claim 90 PS (89 bhp; 66 kW) because of the EP EngineJIS.
Jaguar Rover Australia retailed the Honda Quint in Australia under the "Rover Quintet" name from 1983 through to 1985. Manufactured in Japan by Honda, the Quintet was the first Honda to carry theRover badge. As the Rover Quintet, the interior receivedwood trim, as typified in the later Honda-based Rovers made in Britain, and the seats were trimmed inMoquette cloth. APioneer stereo radio cassette was standard. The Rover Quintet was replaced by theRover 416i, a rebadged version of theHonda Integra.
