Home Game is a novel byPaul Quarrington, published in 1983 byDoubleday Canada.[1]
The novel's central character is Nathaniel Isbister, a former professionalbaseball player turneddrifter.[2] Coming across a town dominated primarily by a religious cult called the House of Jonah,[3] he is ultimately called upon to lead the town's only other residents, a ragtag band ofcircus freaks, in a high-stakes baseball game to determine which of the two groups will be forced to pack up and leave town.[3]
The novel was a shortlisted finalist for theStephen Leacock Award in 1984.[4]
Following Quarrington's successes with his later novelsKing Leary andWhale Music, the novel was republished in paperback byVintage Canada in 1996.[2]
