TheHolly Cousins, also known as theHollys, were aprofessional wrestlingtag team and, later,stable in theWorld Wrestling Federation between 1999 and 2001.[1] It consisted of on-screen cousinsCrash Holly,Hardcore Holly andMolly Holly.[1]
Hardcore, who had debuted in theWorld Wrestling Federation in 1994, introduced hison-screen "cousin" Crash Holly on August 16, 1999.[6] After arguing over who was the toughest Holly cousin,[2] the pair brawled all over the arena for the rest of the show.[6] They teamed up for the first time atSummerSlam,[7] and spent the next few weeks alternating between being rivals and partners.[8][9][10] From September on, the cousins started teaming together full-time,[11][12][13][14] during which time they took to thegimmick of claiming themselves to be well over 400 lb (180 kg), so they could be considered "superheavyweights".[2]
On October 18, 1999, onRaw is War, Crash and Hardcore won theWWF World Tag Team Championship together, defeating theRock 'n' Sock Connection, afterMankind refused to tag into the match, andTriple H interfered.[15][16] They held the title for two weeks before dropping it back toMankind and his new partnerAl Snow on the November 4 episode ofSmackDown!.[17][18]
In early 2000, the Holly cousins beganfeuding over theHardcore title. Hardcore had first won the title in early 1999, before Crash's debut;[19] however, Crash won it on February 22, 2000, defeatingTest.[19] The pair soon started fighting each other for the title including in the "hardcore"Battle royal atWrestleMania 2000, where Crash started off as the champion, but Hardcore left as champion.[19] Crash regained the title the day after WrestleMania,[19] and soon after this, the Holly cousins had their last match as a team for over six months.[1]
During these months Crash concentrated on the hardcore division, winning the title 22 times (after introducing the infamous"24/7 rule"), and earning the nickname "the Houdini of Hardcore".[19] Hardcorelegitimately broke his arm in a match againstKurt Angle and was sidelined for most of this time.[3]
In October 2000, Crash startedfeuding withTest and Albert.[20][21] This set up the debut of another "cousin",Molly Holly. She debuted on November 6, 2000, onRaw, attackingTrish Stratus, who wasmanaging T&A.[5] This led to the Holly Cousins reuniting to feud with T & A and their manager, Trish Stratus.[1][22][23][24]
Although Hardcore and Crash had opportunities to win theTag Team championship, they were never able to capitalize.[25] They competed mainly in both thehardcore division[26][27][28][29] and the tag title division for the next few months.[30][31] Molly had multiple opportunities to win theWomen's title, but wasbooked to lose them all.[32][33]
In early 2001, the Hollys began feuding with theDudley Boyz.[34] In May 2001, Crash and Hardcore, along withBubba and D-Von Dudley became concerned about Molly's burgeoning relationship withSpike Dudley.[35] This led to the Hollys-Dudleys feud intensifying, with both Spike and Molly caught in the middle.[36][37][38] On May 28, 2001, the Dudley Boys famously put Molly through a table, with Spike lying on the table to try and protect her.[38] As Molly and Spike's relationship progressed, the feud between the Hollys and the Dudleys worsened.[39][40][41][42] Molly started accompanying Spike for his matches.[5] They remained as a team until September 2001.[43] Their last match together happened in December 2001.[44]
Crash joined theRawbrand until 2003.[2]
Originally the Hollys were supposed to reunite on September 2, 2002 when Crash revealed that he was the one who was leaving Raw, and planning to join his cousin Hardcore on SmackDown!.[45] This never happened because Hardcore injured his neck that September. Hardcore was out of wrestling for over a year.[3]
Crash competed on Raw and later traded toSmackDown! until his release fromWWE on June 30, 2003.[2] He later died on November 6, 2003 from suicide.[2] Molly eventually dumpedSpike,[5] and went on to become a two-timeWomen's champion.[46][47] On April 12, 2005, Molly left the company and retired from full-time wrestling.[5][48] Hardcore was the final Holly to be released from the company, on January 16, 2009.[3]
