Hoffmans, also known asHoffman's Crossing, is anunincorporated community located along Hoffman's Crossing Road and theSouth Branch Raritan River withinLebanon Township inHunterdon County, New Jersey.[1] It is about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) fromCalifon. The main road in the community isCounty Route 513 (High Bridge-Califon Road).[2] The Hunterdon County Educational Services Commission (HCESC) has a campus here.[3]
The community is named after Issac H. Hoffman (1862–1959), a local farmer, banker and businessman, who operated a sawmill and peach basket factory here.[4]
In 1876, theHigh Bridge Branch of theCentral Railroad of New Jersey (CNJ) starts operation through the community.[5]
TheColumbia Trail passes through the community and connects to the nearbyKen Lockwood Gorge.[6][7]
TheHoffman's Crossing Road Bridge, aPratt thru truss bridge built in 1898, was added to theNew Jersey Register of Historic Places on February 11, 1999.[8]
TheHunterdon Art Museum offers Earth Based Arts and Nature-Themed Programs at the Hoffman's Crossing Campus of HCESC.[9]
In his early life he was a farmer in Hoffman's Crossing area (which had been named for him) between Califon and High Bridge.
