Hiroyuki Takaya (Japanese: 高谷裕之,Takaya Hiroyuki, born June 10, 1977) is a Japanesemixed martial artist currently competing in theFeatherweight division. A professional competitor since 2003, Takaya has fought in theWEC,Strikeforce,DREAM,Shooto,K-1 HERO'S,Pancrase,RIZIN,Vale Tudo Japan, andCage Force. Takaya is the formerDREAM Featherweight Champion. He also competed at the Japanese MMA eventsFight For Japan: Genki Desu Ka Omisoka 2011 andDynamite!! 2010. Due to his experience instreet fighting, Takaya is known as the "Streetfight Bancho".
Takaya made his professional debut in the Shooto organization in a fight against Hayate Usul in 2003. After a 9-4-1 record in Shooto, Hero's, andCage Force including bouts against top mixed martial artists like current Strikeforce Lightweight ChampionGilbert Melendez,Hero's Lightweight runner upGenki Sudo, and formerHero's Middleweight ChampionGesias Calvancante Takaya made his American debut atWEC 32 where he fought, and lost to,Leonard Garcia byknockout. Takaya then lost toCub Swanson atWEC 37 losing by Unanimous Decision but won fight of the night honours.[1][2]
Takaya was a participant in theDREAM Featherweight Grand Prix.[3]Takaya beat Jong Won Kim,Yoshiro Maeda andHideo Tokoro en route to the finals, before losing to Bibiano Fernandes via split decision become the runner up of the tournament.
Takaya scored perhaps the biggest win of his career over formerDREAM Lightweight ChampionJoachim Hansen on May 29, 2010 atDREAM.14 with 28 seconds left in the first round. It was the first knockout defeat in the 10½-year career of Hansen.[4]
On December 31, 2010, Takaya defeatedBibiano Fernandes via unanimous decision and became theDREAM Featherweight Champion.
He fought atDream: Japan GP Final againstKazuyuki Miyata and successfully defended the DREAM Featherweight Championship.
Takaya defended his title on December 31, 2011 atFight For Japan: Genki Desu Ka Omisoka 2011, defeatingTakeshi Inoue via unanimous decision.
Takaya fought on April 9, 2011 atStrikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley.[5] He lost his fight againstRobbie Peralta via split decision.
In his debut for theRizin Fighting Federation, Takaya facedDaiki Hata on December 29, 2015. He won the fight via unanimous decision.
He lost toHiroki Shishido by unanimous decision after being knocked down twice in round one atShootboxing 2013: Act 2 in Tokyo on April 20, 2013.[6][7]
Takaya is married to Japanese fashion model Maho Miura.[8]
