Hiroim is a fictional character appearing inAmerican comic books published byMarvel Comics. The character is depicted usually as a supporting character inHulk books.
Hiroimfirst appeared inIncredible Hulk vol. 3 #92 (April 2006), and was created by writerGreg Pak and artistCarlo Pagulayan.
Originally, Hiroim was a Shadow Priest, dedicated to the story of the Sakaarson — who would unite the people ofSakaar — and trained to join the other Shadows. However, for believing that he could be the Sakaarson, he was expelled from the order. He was chosen to be the personal guard of theRed King and uphold an alliance between the Shadows and the Empire.[1] He broke this vow when the Emperor ordered Hiroim to kill his adolescent son, due to the belief that he would bring ruin and devastation to Sakaar.[2] For breaking that oath, he ended up in the Empire's gladiator training school, the Maw, where he fought alongside such other warriors asMiek, No-Name theBrood,Korg, and theHulk. After two victories in the arena, Hiroim formed a Warbound pact with them, vowing that they would always stand together. Having been freed from their obedience disks by theSilver Surfer, the Warbound went on to vanquish the Red King, Hiroim concluding that the Hulk was the true Sakaarson.[volume & issue needed] Following Caiera's death, Hiroim inherits her ability to manipulate the Oldpower.[3]
After the Hulk's shuttle explodes and destroys Sakaar, Hiroim absorbs the powers of the Sakaar Shadow Priests and accompanies the Hulk to Earth to wage war against theIlluminati, who sent him to Sakaar. During the subsequent conflict with Earth's heroes, Hiroim is defeated byDoctor Strange and loses his left arm.[4][5]
Following the revelation that Miek had allowed the destruction of Sakaar, the remaining Warbound surrender toS.H.I.E.L.D. custody. They escape during tremors caused by Hulk devastatingManhattan. Channeling the rock-based powers of Korg and theThing, Hiroim heals the damage before he and the others escape.[volume & issue needed]
InWorld War Hulk Aftersmash: Warbound, Hiroim and the Warbound confront S.H.I.E.L.D. agents while guardingElloe Kaifi. TheLeader uses Hiroim's powers to create agamma radiation dome before Hiroim sacrifices himself to stop him.[2]
InChaos War, Hiroim is temporarily resurrected and revealed to be in a relationship with Korg.[6][7][8][9][10][11]
Like all the Shadow People, Hiroim possesses enhanced physical abilities and a slowed aging process.[12] As a Shadow Priest, he can transform into mystic rock using the Oldpower.
An alternate universe variant of Hiroim appears inMarvel Zombies Return #4.[13]
Hiroim was featured in two "What If?" issues:
Among the most prominent citizens of Planet Sakaar is Hiroim. For a long time, he serves as the right-hand man of Angmo and later the Red King. Though Hiroim is aligned with the Red King, he is shown to have morals. It's because of these morals that he actually refused to kill the Red King when Angmo ordered him to.
When the S.H.I.E.L.D. vessel which brought the Hulk to Sakaar suddenly exploded, Caiera was caught in the blast, which destroyed Crown City. She died in the Hulk's arms, and her body was consumed by the planet's erupting lava. With Caiera's passing was transferred to Hiroim the Shamed of the Hulk's Warbound.
Hiroim uses his mystical powers to break through Strange's shields. Dr. Strange tells Wong to go as far away and as fast as he can. That Strange says that Zom must live once more. Strange then drinks some magical potion and then faces off against Hiroim.
In the comic, Hulk joins an alliance of intergalactic warriors called Warbound and in issue 619 it's revealed that two members of Warbound, one-armed Hiroim and stone-covered Korg, are a couple.
In "Ragnarok," Korg does seem to have a close relationship with Miek, a fellow enslaved gladiator. But the film didn't include Hiroim, another male gladiator on Sakaar. In the comics, they were all freed by the Silver Surfer before Sakaar's destruction and became Hulk's close allies, forming a group called the Warbound. Following their escape from Sakaar, Korg and Hiroim develop a romantic relationship in the comics' "The Incredible Hulks" series.
Meanwhile, an issue of The Incredible Hulk a few years back revealed that Korg's "beloved" was the warrior Hiroim.
Korg is a member of the alien alliance called the Warbound. Obviously — being built from rock — Korg is a character with a backstory and nuances, one of which is his openly gay relationship with another Warbound member named Hiroim.
In the comics, Korg was revealed to be gay and in a relationship with fellow Warbound member Hiroim.
As the story unravels he slowly bonds with those that he fights with; the crafty insectoid Miek, a bad-ass rock-man named Korg, a ex-shadow priest named Hiroim, and the nobel-born rebel, Elloe.
