Hippolais is a genus oftree warbler in the familyAcrocephalidae. It is sometimes associated with the genusIduna.[2] The genus nameHippolais is fromAncient Greekhupolais, as misspelt byLinnaeus. It referred to a small bird mentioned byAristotle and others and may beonomatopoeic or derived fromhupo,"under", andlaas, "stone".[3]
