Hindustan wasplatted on August 18, 1853, by Charles G. Carr.[3][4] The community took its name after India (Hindustan) "...or a region of it."[5]Documents dating from the 1870s spell the town's name as 'Hindostan'.
Hindustan is located at an altitude of 271 metres (892 feet)[6] alongOld State Road 37 between Chambers Pike and Farr Road. It is within theMorgan Monroe State Forest.
