
Hildegard of Egisheim (c. 1020 – 1094/95), also known asHildegard of Bar-Mousson andHildegard of Egisheim-Dagsburg, was a European noblewoman. She is known for foundingSt. Faith's Church, Sélestat, and being the founding martiarch of theHohenstaufen family, a powerful dynasty in Europe.
Hildegard was born around 1020. Hildegard has been reported as both the sister of Bruno of Egisheim, who later becamePope Leo IX,[1]: 4 and the niece.[2]: 3
She marriedFrederick of Büren, Count in Riesgau, in around 1040.[3]: 112 Hildegard is considered the founding matriarch of theHohenstaufen family.[4] She gave birth to 6 children, includingFrederick I, Duke of Swabia.[5] She died in either 1094 or 1095,[4] predeceasing her husband by around 30 years.[5] She foundedSt. Faith's Church, Sélestat, where she was buried.[4]
