TheHigh School for Environmental Studies (HSES) is located theHell's Kitchen (or Clinton) neighborhood ofManhattan inNew York City.[1] The school was once aFox Film movie studio.[2]
In 1992, the High School for Environmental Studies opened its doors in the building that formerly housedStuyvesant High School in theEast Village on East 15th Street andFirst Avenue in Manhattan.[2] 150 freshmen students attended the school in its first year.[citation needed] HSES was established in response to a growing consciousness of environmental issues and in anticipation of a rapidly expanding field of environmental professions.[3]
