Hermann August Theodor Harms (16 July 1870 – 27 November 1942) was a Germantaxonomist andbotanist.

Harms was born inBerlin. He worked as a botanist at theBotanical Museum in Berlin. He was a member of thePrussian Academy of Sciences. He died in Berlin, aged 72.The standardauthor abbreviationHarms is used to indicate this person as the author whenciting abotanical name.[1]
He was longtime editor ofAdolf Engler's "Das Pflanzenreich", and was the author of several chapters on various plant families in Engler andPrantl's "Die Natürlichen Pflanzenfamilien", including the chapters onBromeliaceae (1930) andNepenthaceae (1936). In the latter he revised thepitcher plant genusNepenthes, dividing it into three subgenera:Anurosperma,Eunepenthes andMesonepenthes (seeTaxonomy ofNepenthes). Furthermore, he was interested in the genusPassiflora.
The plant generaHarmsia,Harmsiella (nowMoluccella),Harmsiodoxa andHarmsiopanax are named in his honour.[2][3]
