Henry Pryce Jackman (born 1 June 1974)[1] is an English film and television music composer, music conductor and music arranger. He composed music for films such asKong: Skull Island,X-Men: First Class,Puss in Boots,Monsters vs. Aliens,Captain Phillips,Kick-Ass,Kick-Ass 2,Turbo,Pixels,Ron's Gone Wrong,Smurfs,The Interview,Pokémon: Detective Pikachu and fiveWalt Disney Animation Studios films, as well as video games such asBattlefield 6,Uncharted 4: A Thief's End,Uncharted: The Lost Legacy andJust Cause 3. He has also collaborated with film directors such asChris Columbus,Don Hall,Chris Miller,Rob Letterman,Matthew Vaughn,Seth Rogen,Evan Goldberg,Raman Hui,Edward Zwick,Russo brothers,Jake Kasdan,Sam Hargrave andRich Moore.
Jackman was born inHillingdon, London.[2] He studied classical music atSt. Paul's Cathedral Choir School,Eton College,Framlingham College andNew College, Oxford,University of Oxford.
Jackman has done programming and production work with artists includingMike Oldfield (Voyager),Sally Oldfield (Flaming Star),Trevor Horn/Art of Noise (The Seduction of Claude Debussy),Elton John andGary Barlow. He co-producedSeal's unreleased 2001 albumTogetherland.[3] "This Could Be Heaven", released from the album, was also co-written by Jackman and used on the movieThe Family Man[4] and included on the deluxe edition of Seal's compilation albumHits.
Jackman has released three albums,Utopia (2003),Transfiguration (2005), andAcoustica (2007; with Augustus Isadore).
Jackman had various minor roles on film scores since 2006, generally working with mentorHans Zimmer, including forThe Da Vinci Code (music programmer),The Dark Knight (music arranger) and additional music forPirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest,Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End,The Simpsons Movie,Kung Fu Panda andHancock. In 2009, Jackman, Zimmer andJohn Powell won the2008 Annie Award for Music in an Animated Television Production or Short Form for their work onDreamWorks Animation'sSecrets of the Furious Five (a spin-off toKung Fu Panda).[5] Jackman has since composed soundtracks for films such asMonsters vs. Aliens,Henri 4,Gulliver's Travels,X-Men: First Class,Winnie the Pooh,Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter,Wreck-It Ralph,Captain America: The Winter Soldier,Captain America: Civil War andRon's Gone Wrong. His most successful video game scores wereUncharted 4: A Thief's End,Uncharted: The Lost Legacy andJust Cause 3.
In March 2022,Reservoir Media acquired the rights to Jackman's catalog.[6]
Henry Jackman is the son of keyboardist and arrangerAndrew Pryce Jackman, who was a member ofThe Syn and worked for many years withChris Squire ofYes. His uncle Gregg Jackman is a sound engineer and producer who has worked with theKing's Singers andBarclay James Harvest;[7] Henry and his uncle both worked onMoa's 1999 albumUniversal.[8] His grandfather, Bill Jackman, playedclarinet on "When I'm Sixty-Four" onThe Beatles'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.[9]
