Henry Bernadet is a Canadian filmmaker and screenwriter fromQuebec, whose solo directorial debut filmGamma Rays (Les Rayons gamma) was released in 2023.[1]
Originally fromQuebec City,[2] he made a number of short films as an independent filmmaker before co-directing the feature filmWest of Pluto (À l'ouest de Pluton) withMyriam Verreault in 2008.[3]
He subsequently moved toMontreal to study film atConcordia University,[2] and directed further short films, and television series episodes, before makingGamma Rays. He cast the film by approaching Georges-Vanier secondary school in the Montreal borough ofVilleray to seek out students in the school's theatre program, and working with them to create a film that would depict stories drawn in part from their own experiences as members of racialized minority groups.[4]
Gamma Rays was a shortlisted finalist for the 2024Prix collégial du cinéma québécois,[5] and Bernadet,Marie-Anne Sergerie andVictor Tremblay-Blouin received aPrix Iris nomination forBest Casting at the26th Quebec Cinema Awards.[6] He received aCanadian Screen Award nomination forBest Director at the13th Canadian Screen Awards in 2025, as well as a nomination forBest Original Screenplay with cowritersNicolas Krief andIsabelle Brouillette.[7]
