Hemakumara Wickramathilaka Nanayakkara (born 12 July 1953) is a Sri Lankan politician who served as the 7th Governor of theWestern Province of Sri Lanka, in office from April to December 2018.[1] He has also been a Governor of theSouthern Province, a former member of theParliament of Sri Lanka and a former government minister.[2] Nanayakkara played active roles for theUnited National Party victory at the 2001 general election. He was appointed as minister soon after the election. In 2007, he decided to support theUPFA. In 2012, Nanayakkara quit theUPFA to form his own party called Ruhunu Janatha Party. The party joinedUnited National Party at the 2015 Presidential election to support the common candidate. Soon after the 2015 election victory, he was appointed the Governor of Southern Province.[3]
