Helsinki sub-region is a subdivision ofUusimaa inFinland. It is the most populoussub-region in Finland with about 1.7 million inhabitants. The sub-regions[1] are used for statistical purposes.[2]Statistics Finland uses the term Helsinki sub-region asSK011 Helsinki.[3] TheLohja sub-region was merged with the Helsinki sub-region in 2009.[4]

The Helsinki sub-region differs from theHelsinki metropolitan area (Greater Helsinki), which does not include the municipalities ofKarkkila,Lohja andSiuntio. The metropolitan area has a population of about 1.62 million.

The smallerHelsinki capital region is the area comprisingEspoo, Helsinki,Kauniainen andVantaa. It has a population of about 1.28 million.
