Heleia is a genus of birds in the white-eye familyZosteropidae. One species, thespot-breasted heleia is restricted to the island ofTimor.[1] Thepygmy white-eye is endemic to the island ofBorneo.[2] Thethick-billed heleia, occurs onFlores andSumbawa.[3]
The genusHeleia was introduced in 1865 by the German ornithologistGustav Hartlaub to accommodate thespot-breasted heleia.[4] The name is fromAncient Greekeleia, an unidentified small bird mentioned by the Greek scholarCallimachus.[5]
