Heiner Backhaus (born 4 February 1982) is a Germanfootball coach and former professional player who coachesAlemannia Aachen. As a player, he was ajourneyman who played as adefensive midfielder.[1][2]
Born inWitten,West Germany, Backhaus made his professional debut withHannover 96 on 12 August 2001, againstSpVgg Unterhaching, on the 61st minute replacingNebojša Krupniković.
He played forRot-Weiss Essen,1. FC Union Berlin,Borussia Mönchengladbach,DSC Arminia Bielefeld andKickers Offenbach in Germany, andAEK Larnaca in Cyprus.[3] He played forValletta from summer 2007 but left the club at the end of the season, after the championship success to joinKitchee SC of Hong Kong.
Furthermore, Backhaus had contracts as a player inSaudi Arabia,Syria andLebanon.[4]
