Hans Arnold Engelhard (16 September 1934 – 11 March 2008) was a Germanjurist.[1] A member of theFree Democratic Party (FDP), he served asGerman Federal Minister of Justice in theCabinet Kohl I,II, andIII, between 1982 and 1991.[2]

Born inMunich, Engelhard studied law at theUniversity of Erlangen and theLudwig Maximilian University of Munich, and received his secondStaatsexamen in 1963.[3][4]

Having joined the Free Democratic Party in 1954, he won a seat in theBundestag in the1972 German federal election.[5]

In 1982, he succeededJürgen Schmude as Federal Minister of Justice of Germany, and served until 1992.[2]
