Hampus Wilhelm Arnell (2 August 1848 inHärnösand – 1932 inUppsala) was a Swedishbryologist. He was the father ofhepaticologistSigfrid Vilhelm Arnell (1895–1970).
In 1875, he became aprivat-docent ofbotany at theUniversity of Uppsala, later working as a schoolteacher inUmeå and Harnosand. In 1880 he became an associate professor ofnatural history andchemistry inJönköping. He later taught classes inGävle (from 1894) and Uppsala (from 1901).[1]
His botanical studies included trips throughout most of Sweden, to northernNorway (1869, 1870 and 1891) and to the lowerYenisei valley inSiberia (1876).[1] From 1873 onward, he performedphenological research in various parts of Sweden.[2]
