Hamada al-Omar (Arabic:حمادي العمر) is aSyrian village located in theUqayribat Subdistrict of theSalamiyah District in theHama Governorate. According to theSyria Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Hamada al-Omar had a population of 2,056 in the 2004 census.[1] Its inhabitants are largelySunni Muslims whose forebears converted fromIsmaili Shia Islam.[2]
On 20 February 2022, 3Syrian army soldiers loyal toBashar al-Assad were killed and another was injured after a landmine, planted byISIL operatives, exploded near the town.[3]
