TheHaifa Subdistrict (Arabic:قضاء حيفا;Hebrew:נפת חיפה) was one of thesubdistricts of Mandatory Palestine.[1] It covered the northernMediterranean coast of regionalPalestine, southwesternGalilee, and theWadi Ara region. It was disintegrated after theBritish withdrawal from the area. Prior to and during the1948 Arab-Israeli War around half of the Arab localities were depopulated or destroyed. The entire district was captured byIsrael and most of itsArab defenders were composed of theArab Liberation Army and local militias.
Its predecessor wasHaifa Subdistrict, Ottoman Empire.[citation needed]
The subdistrict was transformed intoHaifa District, divided intoHaifa Subdistrict andHadera Subdistrict underIsrael.
