HMS Abastor was ashore establishment of theRoyal Navy atTilbury used for the planning ofOperation Pluto, which laid undersea pipelines to supplied theallied troops with fuel during the liberation of Europe in 1944.[1] Another Pluto training establishment atWoolston, Southampton, was given the similar nameHMS Abatos.[1]
Abastor's nominaldepot ship was theNAB Interlude (43627), aNaval Auxiliary Boat which took the form of a petrol-driven harbour launch.[1] It was in service as a depot ship from November 1, 1943, through July 1945, which was when it was transferred back to being a harbour launch.[1]
