Gwydir Shire was alocal government area in theNew England region ofNew South Wales, Australia.

Gwydir Shire was proclaimed on 7 March 1906, one of 134 shires created after the passing of theLocal Government (Shires) Act 1905.[1]

The shire offices were based inBingara.[2]

The Shire was amalgamated with theMunicipality of Bingara to formBingara Shire on 1 January 1944.[3]
