"Guilty Pleasure" is a song by Croatian singerMia Dimšić. The song representedCroatia in theEurovision Song Contest 2022 inTurin after winning the pre-selection competitionDora 2022.[1][2]

Background and release

[edit]

"Guilty Pleasure" was one of fourteen songs commissioned byHRT forDora 2022, Croatia's national selection for theEurovision Song Contest 2022.[3] The song was composed by Branimir Bačić, Vjekoslav Dimter and Dimšić herself.[4] "Guilty Pleasure" premiered on 10 February 2022, ten days ahead ofDora 2022, Croatia's national selection for theEurovision Song Contest 2022.[5] The song became available through digital retailers and streaming services on 20 February 2022 throughCroatia Records.[6]

In an interview onRTL Danas, Dimšić citedTaylor Swift's 2020albumsFolklore andEvermore as inspirations for the song.[7] However, Dimšić was widely accused of plagiarizing Swift's 2020 single "Willow",[8] mostly bysocial media users, such asTwitter[9] andTikTok.[10][11] Dimšić denied the accusations in an interview with24sata, but acknowledged the comparisons as a compliment since she is a great admirer of Swift.[12] On 25 February 2022, during anOtvoreni Radio interview, Dimšić performed amashup of her and Swift's songs, dubbing it "Guilty Willow".[13] Following the plagiarism allegations, "Willow" enteredBillboard'sCroatia Songs chart at number nine on the issue dated 5 March 2022.[14][15]

On 21 March 2022, during a radio interview, Dimšić premiered theCroatian version of the song titled "Netko drugi" (Someone Else) on a localHR 2 radio showMusic Pub Zlatka Turkalja.[16] The Croatian version was released onYouTube Music,[17]Deezer[18] andApple Music[19] on 23 March 2022.
