TheGsx gene family are a group of genes found in many, but not all, animals. Gsx genes contain ahomeobox DNA sequence and code for proteins that act astranscription factors. Thehuman genome has two Gsx genes, calledGSX1 andGSX2 (formerlyGSH1 andGSH2), while the fruitflyDrosophila has a single Gsx gene calledind. Vertebrate Gsx genes are implicated in neural patterning.[1][2] In many animals, Gsx genes can be part of aParaHox gene cluster.[3]
