TheGrimoire of Pope Leo orEnchiridion of Pope Leo is a Frenchgrimoire (a textbook of magic) that ispseudepigraphically attributed toPope Leo III. The book claims to have been published in 1523, but the earliest known version of the text is from 1633.[1] It was listed in police records in association with theAffair of the Poisons, and a copy was owned byMarc Antoine René de Voyer.[2]
This grimoire, along with otherBibliothèque bleue grimoires such as theGrimoire of Pope Honorius andPetit Albert, were brought to the French Caribbean colonies, becoming the foundation of that region's literary magical tradition.[3]
