Thegrey-striped spurfowl (Pternistis griseostriatus) is a species ofbird in the familyPhasianidae.It is found only inAngola.
Its naturalhabitats aresubtropical or tropical dry forest,subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, and subtropical or tropical dry lowlandgrassland. It is threatened byhabitat loss.
The grey-striped spurfowl was described in 1890 by the Scottish ornithologistWilliam Robert Ogilvie-Grant from a single specimen and given thebinomial nameFrancolinus griseostriatus.[2] Although Ogilvie-Grant specified the habitat as the "Congo River", thetype locality has been designated as theCuanza River area of Angola.[3] The specific epithetgriseostriatus combines theMedieval Latingriseus meaning "grey" with the Latinstriatus meaning "striated".[4] The species is now placed in thegenusPternistis that was introduced by the German naturalistJohann Georg Wagler in 1832.[5][6] The grey-striped spurfowl is considered asmonototypic: nosubspecies are recognised.[6]
