Gregg Sulkin (born 29 May 1992)[1][2] is an English actor. He made his television debut in the 2002 miniseriesDoctor Zhivago, and his film debut in the 2006 comedySixty Six, before gaining early recognition for his leading role in theDisney Channel comedy seriesAs the Bell Rings (2007–2008). Sulkin'sbreakthrough came with his Hollywood debut in the television seriesWizards of Waverly Place (2010–2012) andits 2013 television film sequel. He also starred in the Disney television filmAvalon High (2010).

Following his recurring role in thethird season of the thriller seriesPretty Little Liars (2012), Sulkin starred in the teen comedy television seriesFaking It (2014–2016); the superhero television seriesRunaways (2017–2019), in which he portrayedChase Stein; andPretty Smart (2021). During this period, he also starred in theindependent filmsWhite Frog (2012) andDon't Hang Up (2016), as well as in the teen romance filmsA Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish (2019) andThis Is the Year (2020). Sulkin has since starred in the second season of theBBC war drama seriesWorld on Fire (2023) and inTyler Perry's war filmThe Six Triple Eight (2024).

Early life

Sulkin was born in Westminster, London. He isJewish and had hisBar Mitzvah at theWestern Wall inJerusalem.[3][4][5][6] He attendedHighgate School in North London.[7]

Career

Early work (2002–2009)

Sulkin made his acting debut in the 2002 mini-seriesDoctor Zhivago. He subsequently starred in the comedySixty Six,[8] as Bernie Rubens, alongsideHelena Bonham Carter,Eddie Marsan andCatherine Tate.[9] Sulkin also played the role of JJ in theDisney Channel comedy,As the Bell Rings,[8] worked on aCBBC children sci-fi showThe Sarah Jane Adventures (spin-off ofDoctor Who), playing Adam in series 3 two-episode storyThe Mad Woman in the Attic.

Sulkin was part of Disney Channel'sPass the Plate as Gregg from the UK. He had a recurring guest role on the Disney Channel seriesWizards of Waverly Place, where he playedAlex's love interestMason Greyback he reprised his role in 4 episodes of season 3 and returned to the series in its fourth season,[10] and through to its finale.[11] Sulkin has also landed a role in the thrillerThe Heavy.[12]

Breakthrough (2010–2014)

In 2010, he went to New Zealand to film theDisney Channel Original MovieAvalon High, which premiered on 12 November 2010.[13][14] In an interview withKyle Martino, aired on Soccer Talk Live on the Fox Soccer Channel in the US, Sulkin announced that he was a fan ofArsenal. Sulkin participated theDisney Channel's Friends for Change Games and was on the Yellow Team.[15] He reprised his role as Mason Greyback inThe Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex which premiered on Disney Channel in March 2013.

In 2012, Sulkin starred in the American teen drama seriesPretty Little Liars as a recurring character, Wesley Fitzgerald, brother of Ezra Fitz.[16] In February 2013, it was announced that Sulkin would play Julian Fineman in FOX's television adaptation ofLauren Oliver's young adult novel,Delirium. On 8 May, it was reported that Fox has decided not to pick upDelirium.[17]

Since 2014

From 2014 to 2016, Sulkin starred in the MTV comedyFaking It.[16] Sulkin portrayed Liam Booker. Sulkin defeatedVictoria Justice on 30 July 2015 episode ofSpike'sLip Sync Battle, where he performed "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" byThe Darkness before donning a wig and going shirtless to performKelis's "Milkshake".[18]

Sulkin starred in the leading role of Sam Fuller in the horror-thriller filmDon't Hang Up which was released in theatres on 10 February 2017.[19][20]

Sulkin also playedChase Stein onRunaways, aHulu series set in theMarvel Cinematic Universe.

Personal life

Sulkin became an American citizen on 23 May 2018. He retains hisBritish citizenship.[1]

In 2024, Sulkin visited Israel, where he spoke with families of hostages still held inGaza and with a former hostage who had been abducted from theNova music festival following theOctober 7 attacks. During the trip, he also visitedJewish holy sites inJerusalem.[21][22]
