David Gregory Malone (born October 19, 1948 inSt. John's,Newfoundland) is aCanadianimpressionist and actor.[1] He is well known for theCODCO television series and his impersonations ofBarbara Frum,Jean Chrétien, andQueen Elizabeth II.[1]
Prior to CODCO, Malone wrote and performed in a number of shows forCBC Television, includingThe Wonderful Grand Band,The Root Seller andThe S and M Comic Book,[1] and appeared in the filmThe Adventure of Faustus Bidgood.[1]
After the death of hisCODCO co-starTommy Sexton in 1993, he devoted some years of his life to raising awareness ofHIV andAIDS, including writing, directing and appearing in a training film for health care professionals.[1] He also directed adocudrama film,The Untold Story of the Suffragists of Newfoundland,[1] in which he appeared asSir Richard Squires, and acted in the filmsRare Birds,Extraordinary Visitor,Messiah from Montreal andHeyday!. He also appeared in a one-man special forComedy Now!,Pocket Queen, which won an award at the 1999WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival.[1] More recently, he has had a recurring guest role inRepublic of Doyle.[1] He appeared as orphanage headmaster Mr. Hill in the Irish-Canadian co-productionMaudie, widely released in 2017.[2]
Along with Sexton and theirCODCO co-starAndy Jones, Malone was a recipient of theEarle Grey Award, the lifetime achievement award of Canadian television'sGemini Awards, in 2002.[1]
His first memoir,You Better Watch Out, was published in 2009 by Knopf Canada.[1] He released a book in 2012 entitledDon't Tell the Newfoundlanders: The True Story of Newfoundland's Confederation with Canada, which is a look at howNewfoundland became a province ofCanada in 1949.[1] Malone is openly gay.[3][4] He is also an amateur theologian.

Malone participated in the campaign that stopped the privatization ofNewfoundland and Labrador Hydro, and has championed other environmental causes, including a campaign to ban shipping of garbage toNewfoundland. He ran as a candidate for theNew Democratic Party in theSt. John's Westby-election in 2000, losing narrowly toLoyola Hearn.[5]
Malone supportedElizabeth May and theGreen Party of Canada in the2008 election, and performed at the 2009 Green Party convention inPictou,Nova Scotia.
In June 2019, Malone was announced as the Green party candidate for the riding ofAvalon for the2019 federal election.[6][7] Malone finished a distant fourth in the election.
