GreenButton was a software company based inWellington,New Zealand. It was established in 2006 and it helped independent software vendors (ISVs) and enterprises transition to cloud computing. GreenButton operated additional offices inPalo Alto,California, andSeattle. On 2 May 2014, the company was acquired byMicrosoft. Following the acquisition, GreenButton's technologies were incorporated into Microsoft's Azure cloud service.
GreenButton was founded as InterGrid in 2006 in Wellington, New Zealand, to provide small-scale customers access to job processors.[2] The company helped software vendors usecloud computing, offering a service called GreenButton in July 2010.[3][4]
In 2011, the company was renamed GreenButton, and joined theMicrosoft Partner Network.[5] In 2011, GreenButton was declared as Microsoft Corp'sWindows Azure ISV Partner of the Year.[6] In May 2011, GreenButton allied with Microsoft.[7][8] It included an investment reported at more than US$1 million, and addingMark Canepa to its board of directors.[9]
In December 2011, GreenButton opened two offices in the United States, the US headquarters inPalo Alto, California, and a sales office in Seattle.[7]
GreenButton partnered with thePixar Animation Studios and Microsoft's cloud computing platformWindows Azure, on a rendering service forRenderMan image-generating software announced in January 2012.[10] The service enhances theRenderMan Interface Specification.[11]
In June 2012, GreenButton announced a partnership with theGNS Science of New Zealand and American based Stillwater Group for cloud computing duringseismic processing.[6] In the same year, the company entered into a partnership withNumerix, an American firm that develops software for risk analysis of financial derivatives.[12][13]
On 2 May 2014, GreenButton announced its acquisition byMicrosoft with its technology integrated intoMicrosoft Azure.[14] After its acquisition GreenButton operates under Microsoft Azure product line as Azure Batch.[15]
